Design Philosophy
We design spaces and places to find similarities between ourselves and our ancestors. We find comfort in the feeling that people have lived before us and will continue to live on long after we are gone.
This need for connection is why we recognize places that show evidence of human presence. It is why, for example, the subtle wear pattern on the treads of a stone stair cause us to pause and consider all of those who have used that stair before us. A well-designed place is a story written in the material of this world.
This ‘written’ history transcends nationality, culture, religion, politics and social order. As hard as we try to distinguish ourselves, we need to feel a connection to others...
